I helped him put up this piece at the Royal Academy a very important show organised by Bryan Kneal. Everyone who was anyone was in it.

About this time Martin found a building near Old Street and asked me if I wanted to come in. It was quite a commitment for me as I was still a student, could I afford it ? My flat in West Kensington was now three rooms for about £5 a week, all in, and pretty secure the studio would cost £60 a month plus bills and needed a lot of work. With the optomism of youth I said yes straight away.

It was also quite a gamble for Martin to offer me a space and I'm still very grateful he did. It was an incredible turning point for me, making me take myself much more seriously.

Of course it also increased my arrogance exponentialy.
